'85FC31 Security Light issue... need help!
I have a 1985 FC31 and I am having a major issue with the security
lights. Whenever I flip the "Security Lights" switch above the beds,
I hear the solenoids click, no external lights turn on and I
instantly lose all 12v accessories in the coach. Additionally, the
blue indicator lights on the dash for both the front landing and rear
landing lights turn on (actual external lights do not) but are not
affected/controlled by flipping the rocker switch. I am able to turn
on the engine without problems, but most internal accessories become
inactive.

The system resets in about 30-90 minutes and is only triggered by the
Security Lights feature. All of the solenoids appear to be
functioning correctly as I can turn on and off the landing and other
external lights independently. I am also at a loss to know where the
power comes into the coach from the battery bay. Is there a breaker
at that point that I havent checked because the only thing I can
figure is that the amp draw with all of the external lights on will
instantly trip a breaker that I can't find.

Has anybody run across this before and/or is the an easy fix... once
you know where to look? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Please contact me at 239-826-8218 (cell) or my email address of

With all the security lights turned ON,
Headlights, highbeams, docking light, rear backup lights,
This is a lot of current, I would first check the battery terminals.
especially the grounds. Then remove(unplug) the relay.
all will work with this relay removed.
It is a small clear plastic see thru square relay,
on our 88 FC it is located in the storage area above the bed on the
rear.

James,
Are you plugged in when you do this? Or not? What is the battery
voltage when this is happening. Sorta thinking along the lines of
pattypape could it be that your batteries are low/bad?

Jim

Jim, if James could use dash switches to turn on all the security
light appliances that the security switch is designed to glow (at
the same time), the 12v power loss is a result of only the
securityswitch. allmost sounds like the relay lines are triggering
the AT or a normaly open solenoid.

Is there a switch, relay or solenoid in the 85 that duplicates the
resulting condition as a function of that switch??? like a marine
battery switch. DickH has knowledge of the phantom load solenoids
that may be worth checking????

James,
I experienced something like this. I called Ralph!
My problem was with the circuit breakers inside the coach, at the base
of the steering column. The breakers weren't bad, however one of the
bolts connecting the main DC cable was loose.(just barely loose)This
allowed some corrosion to start under one of these connections. This
happened to us while sitting at a dump station.......UGH! Couldn't
get DC power to anything. Hope this helps you.
Best advice is to leave that SECURITY switch alone.[grin]
