50 A power cord
Greetings All:
What is the pin-out for the coach end of the 50 A. cord (the 7764 connector)? The replacement plug is marked "X-Y-Z-Green" and "Z" is opposite to the outer ground tab. The original was stolen. Thanks-- M.R.Kane 1985 PT40 currently Sanger, TX |

Here's a web page with the pin wiring diagram for a variety of plugs/sockets.
Drop to the bottom of the page for the 50 amp 4-wire plug.
G is the ground (center top), the other markings should be W-X-Y. "W" is white and is the neutral -- it is the center bottom position. (Do not connect the neutral to the ground in an RV.) X and Y are the hot connections that go on the left and right positions. It doesn't really matter which is which. You get 120 vac between X and W and Y and W. You get 240 vac between X and Y. In most RVs, the WX and WY are the source of power for each "leg" of the system. 50 A power cord
The problem with most available charts showing pin-outs, is that the
BB connectors are not NEMA standard twist-locks. In any event, the "Z" terminal is the neutral on this version of the 7764 plug. I am replacing a lost/stolen cord. I found surplus trailer cords on ebay for ~$60 plus shipping: It is 36 feet long, 6/3 & 8/1 with a molded-on 4-prong plug, other end no connector. (This is about 10 feet longer than the 50 A. cord that came with my '85.) It weighs about 25 pounds, so not a bad deal with scrap copper running $3 around here...and keep an eye on yours.
