Mounting stuff to the skin of my bird
I have changed 99% of my exterior screws to stainless. Most of the screws range from #6 to #10. Most are 1" long. I suspect the grab bar used #10 available at Ace Hardware. I simply removed the screw, filled the hole with NP-1 caulk and wiped off the excess with mineral spirits. The original screw sealant was some sort of putty; cannot call the name at this time; looks just like plumbers putty. Perhaps someone else remembers. As I recall a #6 screw a 1/8" drill bit but double check before drilling. #10 might be a 3/16" don't remember. Stainless screws eliminates 99% of black streaks.

I have a '85FC31' and need to mount a longer entry way grab bar for my

four year old son to hang onto when he enters my bird. I have a 24"

stainless steel grab bar that will cover the top hole of the existing

handle and stop just above the generator door.

Can anyone make any recommendations for the best way to mount this

without causing problems (i.e.: length and size of screws, size of

associated drill bit, gasket or caulk, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Sincerely,
