Fuel supply to gen set?

Fuel supply to gen set?
This weekend's bus project is to install a Webasto Thermo 90 in the rear driver
side
compartment of our 83 FC. The fuel supply to the Webasto heater cannot be under
pressure.

Does anybody know if the diesel fuel supply line for the generator (mine is a
Yanmar) is
under pressure? I am hoping the generator uses a separate line from the tank
that is not
pressurized.

Or, is it drawn from the same fuel line that feeds the Racor? It is my
understanding that
the fuel line to the Racor is under pressure from a facet pump.

I suppose it is possible to tap the tank itself, but its full and I'm not too
crazy about
drilling into that beast.

I will be assisting a certified diesel mechanic with this project. He is a good
heavy truck
man, but not familiar with Birds.

If you want to drop the tank there extra ports in the top then you can
add an additional vent to stop the dreaded diesel fuel belly
(Splash back hit you in the belly)
there should be 2 or 3 threaded holes in the top of the tank that are
not currently being used

Stephen,

Dropping the tank sounds like a real pain for what appears to be a simple
project. I
would need another tank to put my 276 gallons of fuel in. I hope its not my only
option.

However, now you have me wondering if there may be a port in the bedroom floor
that
would allow access to the threaded holes? Is there one?

Splash back has not been a problem so far. In fact, I just topped off today and
no issue..
I wonder if I already have the additional vent.

Fuel supply to gen set?
The fuel supply to my Wabasto (different model) is attached to a fitting on the intake side of the Racor, then to its own Racor filter and then to the Wabasto pump. It works great until the fuel tank gets below 1/8 full and that is only when stationary. Works fine with the engine running. I concluded after filling the tank and watching the Wabasto again work perfectly while stationary that some static pressure is in the intake line based on the amount of fuel in the tank and the Webasto pump was not strong enough to pull it to the burner when the fuel tank was low.

I did locate a tank access in the bedroom floor just in front and to the left of
the bed.

Sure enough, there is one free tank port with a threaded plug.
