What is this bump behind the doghouse?
Looking at a 81 wanderlodge and pics show a small box behind the
doghouse, wondering what is under it and why it is there. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff300...ge/sw9.jpg thx John |

That is where the turbo is. My old '82 FC was re-powered with a 225hp
turbo before leaving the factory. Since the non-turbo dog houses did not leave space for the turbo, a hump was added. Mine looked a bit more professional than the one in your photo and was smaller. Really starting to belive that this does have a stock turbo. It has
the labels on the sides and rear that say turbo also. This might be a late 1981. Maybe this is when they started to move into turbo models? thx John --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Scott Forman" <scottforman75@...> wrote: > > That is where the turbo is. 81 did not have turbo, 82 didn't either, but mine was re-powered from
the factory. Yours may have been as well. Scott --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "jcpryn" > > Really starting to belive that this does have a stock turbo. What is this bump behind the doghouse?
That's and interesting little bit of information. I would never have
figured that one out. Is that the only place to put a turbo in a non turbo FC? I know that it is not uncommom to have turbo engines in early machines. Not that I've seen any up close like but in pictures I've never seen that little box on the floor like that. Would some of the buses that had turbo engines placed in them have had the dog house replaced so that it extended back over that area? Another way to ask that. Is the dog house in a newer FC longer then the older non turbo FC from the factory. What is this bump behind the doghouse?
The doghouse changed with the turbo. How exactly it is different I
can't tell you. It is probably possible to retrofit the newer dog house, but I suspect the box is much easier. I have also heard of turbos installed in the right front storage compartment. Others may chime in as well. Necessity is the mother of creative engineering.
