94pt shuts off in traffic
Just got back from a week trip that started out with frantic phone
calls to CurtS and RobR. Rob told me to check for voltage with
unique body parts but CurtS was helpful.

My bus would quit, standing me roadside in L.A. (SteveG,the LA above
sealevel) anything that was run with the ig key would go off and
with in 1 min it would come back. I did not have the electrical
prints so I was at a loss as to which breaker was tripping because
it would repair. I found out that the 75 amp relay number 36 was
that powered by the key so I switched the 75 amp #36 with 75 amp #37
(under front fiberglass pannel ;below windshield ;big black
relay ;center top ;only two there ;large wires).

One fear I had was with the tranny. it would repower in N if I am
rolling on the freeway at 45 mph when it repowered, and push D, what
gear does the allison choose??? therefor I would roll to a stop. and
set off again only to fail four more times in 30 miles. stopping to
chech for the obvious ground and wire fixes.

Soon I realized that the 75 amp ig relay was losing its signal from
the ig switch so I jumped the signal to the relay with a 12 volt hot
wire and a toggle. power up the relay with the toggle at the
cockpit and use the key switch to contact the starter. to shut
down, it was necesary to turn off the toggle and the key.

Now at home I have the prints in hand and can not find the
location or notation of the fuse to the ignition switch. I dont
think it is split at the rear but there may be some three way
situation with the remote start??????

I dont think it is the ig switch because it would repair like a fuse
circuit braker or heated relay. Are these ig switches internally
fused???? The 94ish ig switch is not like the older pt's that were
big amp switches. 94ish trip the 75 amp relay which power other
relays and fused components.

traced wires to the ig::
The "engine compartment light" shares a breaker with both ig
switches this may be the issue (three wires off this breaker). If
the engine compartment light or the bay door switch to the light
keeps tripping a fuse, you are screwed the light wires are protected
by the breaker tripping and the bus stops. there are several
breakers in the back (little silver boxes with two 5/16? inch studs)
under and around the big reed copper shunts along the wall above the
3 start batteries. power to the ig switch is via this 40 foot long
wire 'orange and black'.

I think I will lablel all three breakers ;then replace ;then pick a
new big wire source up near the cockpit to send 12 v to the ig
switch ( add a 20 amp breaker there also). the small wire is
sufficient to run the power to the ig switch because the ig switch
(key) only need little amperage to flip a larger 75amp relay. but
there are just too many things that can happen in 40 feet and the
compartment light is just one more error prone item that can cause
collateral damage.

other computer issues have arisen in the past with the breakers in
this area. While roadside, RobR directed me to jump one for a limp
repair but removal of that breaker did not cut power. (Rob was
close) it may be heat deterioration in the breakers or the fact
that I dont close the engine compartment door all the way to a solid
lock because the clasps are not aligned???? so now is the time to
replace all the crap back there. I prob will put the breaker in the
same spots but for sure will move the source of 12 v to the front ig
to a big wire in the cockpit area.

below is a pic of the fused self resetting breaker for power to the
cockpit and engine compartment ignition switch. it is the one all the
way to the left without a shunt on the bat side ( other two are tied at
bat terminal). I was surprised that the third wire was not the engine
compartment light as the light remained on. It is not on the battery
wall as I posted prior, it is behind the rear bumper. I am concerned
that the fuse/breaker is tripping as a result of some issue???and it is
not a faulty fuse. one wire was f'ed (not ig wire) and broke off while
I removed the bat side . the threads of the breaker/fuse are gunked up
with debris and as a result, removal of the 3/8 in nut is too
aggressive to think that the fuse/breaker will internally survice a
removal cleaning.
