PT Cruise Control Replacement
Scott, see if you can run a separate ground wire to the controls of the cruise. Mine had a weak ground and Ron added that direct one.

My cruise does not work, and I cannot figure out why. I also
understand that some parts for this old system are no longer available. With that in mind, has anyone installed a new cruise system on an 80's PT with 8v92? I really want to have cruise. I am open to suggestions. Scott Forman 86 PT38 Memphis |

I'm not sure but I think my 84 FC and 86 Newell both used a Bendix air cruise control. But yours may be different.

Why don't you tell us what is going on. Does it turn on? Does it run
at all? Does it not engage? We need more information to help you. It might be salvageable. R.E. PT Cruise Control Replacement
I had the problem of the cruise cutting in and out. Ralph replaced a
relay and added a hot wire running to one of my engine batts. He did this about 4 years ago in Albany, Or. He checked it today and found nothing wrong with the relay but the extra hot wire going to it was going to one of my engine batts that is completely dead! Needless to say, 2 new batts are being installed tomorrow. Might this be your problem also? Bob Lawrence 84 PT36 Duncan, Ok. > Why don't you tell us what is going on. Does it turn on? PT Cruise Control Replacement
Hi Scott:
In the engine compartment, curb side under the grill on the back wall above the batteries, there should be a black Bosh relay 30 amp. There should be a wire going directly to a 12 vdc positive source. Be sure there is 12 vdc on that wire at the relay. Then go up and turn the key switch to the "run" position, no need to start the Coach and switch the cruise control on/off to the on position. Then with a multimeter go back to the relay and see if the coil energized and if the 12 vdc is now on the front wire from the hot Battery wire you checked earlier. If no 12 vdc then check pin 86 and see if 12 vdc there, and check pin 85 for voltage. If no voltage replace the Bosh relay. There are many checks that can be made to trouble shoot this system. It's been a while since I worked on one, but I can tell you that the
Bendix is powered from the front of the coach with a small guage wire. On Ernie's coach, it was only supplying about 9 volts. That is sufficient to operate a relay that you can install in the rear near the Bendix. Take the power directly from the batteries to the Bendix with the original power wire controlling the relay. You may not have any power at all and that could be a faulty circuit breaker or a faulty ground. R.E.
