12.5 Kohler Gen set Instruments
I have the 12.5 Perkins/Kohler Gen set. The only "engine" instrument
that works is the Volt meter. Can anyone help with the location of the
sending units on the engine for Water temp and oil pressure. I have
checked the gnd at the instrument panel and got no results, this could
still be the problem. I see several sending units on the engine but am
unsure which ones are tied into the auto shut down and which go to the
instruments. Also if anyone can help with a procedure for testing
either the instruments or the sending units. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

THANKS

The Oil pressure sending unit is on the right side of the engine low down about 2/3 back from the front. The temperature sending unit is on the top front near the upper radiator hose. I have the resistance of the units at home but we are on the road right now. I would expect a wiring problem since they both are not working. It is easy to pull the leads off them when work is being performed on the genset.

some of the meters have 12 volts feeding the meter and some have a ground connection. they are not all fed the same way. this is pretty silly but it is the way they did it. all meter function is triggered by the control box. if the generator is not running or trying to run, troubleshooting the metering is tricky. if the metering is not running, it may also shut down the engine. it is a real catch 22 trick
