Has anyone tried replacing dual drive tires with super singles?
I have excellent tread but the dreaded sidewall cracks from sun and

I was considering it, but I need over 20,000lb load capacity on my

I guess my first step is to get my actual axle weights. Should let me know what I need. I am in Orlando at present and met Gary Minker. He stopped by our campsite and by chance he also has a 1985 PT40. He has had His Wanderlodge for 12 years and was very helpful in helping a newbie understand some of the PT40's in's and out's. Has anyone tried replacing dual drive tires with super singles?
There are no super singles over 10,000 each as the market would only
be for overweight vehicles. Too small for production. Fed law allows the maximum single axle weight to be 20,000 lbs. Some builders have more than that as their GAWR ,and as a safety factor ,that is great. Legally ,however , you run the risk of fines or penalties if the load is over 20,000 lbs. The 365 tire has a maximum load of over 10,000 but would not be suitable. Ross 2006 LXi |

I'd be sure to not get just the axle weight, but the weight at each wheel. Depending on the layout, some of the coaches are much heavier on one side or the other, so the tire loading may be a problem when the axle loading is not. However, there is some dynamic with the air bags that cause unreliable single wheel weights, making side to side variations appear then disappear.... <sigh>
Anyway, after going through the process of weighing my coach axle by axle with individual wheel scales, I decided to raise the air pressure in the drive axle tires (from the factory recommendation) due to the 'apparent' side to side loading difference (with one side having 2000 lbs higher wheel load) -- but weighing the coach a second time (a short time later, but after having driven the coach) gives different results.....
