Paul,
Yes, I did. The engine was running fine and starting on first turn
over but all of a sudden began poring water from the tubes.

Paul,

Did Ron Roberts from Brandon Florida ever contact you back about the
two 6V92's that he had?

I bet selling the bus with the blown engine and using that15 to $18K
with the 15K it cost to do a rebuild would prove the same as picking
up a gem at 30 grand.

Sounds like mine when I was on the road in Alberta. Engine running
perfect, then water dump. Have you discovered where the seals failed?

When this happens, how rebuildable is the engine? Is it better to
buy a rebuilt or new engine? It seems a new engine runs about $15k
and I'm not sure if that's the installed price.

Did the engine have a lot of miles? Had it been overhauled before?
Just curious since I'm unfamiliar with the Detroits and this is the
first one I've owned (I'm used to the Cats).

Bill. Do you know what damage you did to the engine. They pulled the pan on mine and found the number one main had spun. You may do an in frame if the crank is not bad. Paul

Rebuilding 6V92
That 15K does not include removal and reinstall. I chose to do an
in-frame overhaul. Total cost at 23K, but it was done in Canada.
Might have been a little cheaper here, but I doubt it very much. Mine
was complete with new heads, new blower, cylinder kits, etc. They
kept the block and crank. I had 190,000 miles on it. Since mine was
an 8V92 yours might be a little less.

If yours was shut-down just after starting, I doubt that yours was
damaged like mine. Mine was up at full temperature and seized up
because of no way to dissipate the heat in the engine. There did not
appear to be any cost saving by purchasing a re-built and it would
have taken 6 weeks to get one.
