Tie rod ends/boots/ball joints

Tie rod ends/boots/ball joints
Does anyone have the part number for the tie rod ends for an 85 PT40? And, any
idea where I can buy them? Mine are nearly shot - there is no boot left and it
seems a danger to drive without. So, I'm rushed to find new ones so I can get
on the road in a few weeks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the part numbers, but the Blue Bird school bus folks, either the plant in Ft. Valley or one of the several regional distributors is very likely to carry the part.
Indeed, when I needed a drag link (tie rod), I was able to get one from A to Z Bus (A BB school bus distb.) in Sacramento, CA.

Pete,

Thanks for the lead. I've contacted A to Z and I haven't got very far yet (I'm
pushing the issue). A to Z claimed they don't carry Wanderlodge stuff and to
contact Holland in San Diego. I've emailed A to Z back and let him know I'm not
looking for coach parts - I'm looking for chassis parts, which they should have.
I'm awaiting his reply now.

I did contact Holland to see if they did have parts. The parts guy who answered
the phone had never heard of a tie rod and had no idea what it was. I guess I'm
getting old - even my wife (non mechanic) has heard of a tie rod before! If I
get some good info I'll post it so others have it.

If anyone else has a lead on chassis parts (tie rods/boots for the front end) or
has the part number, I would appreciate the info.

Tie rod ends/boots/ball joints
have them look up the part number in the bluebird book
look at highway express coach, wanderlodge chassis numbers usually start with a
zero
delete the zero and run the [part numbers

I'm afraid that I only have a misc. parts (switches, etc.) catalog from BB -- and it has no steering parts listed. But looking through the catalog reminded me, you should tell the -parts- guy at AtoZ that it for the 1985 All American Chassis ... that will get him in the right zone. Of course having the part numbers is a big help.
When I got my tie rod ends and drag link from AtoZ, the 'parts guy' at Henderson Line Up called the AtoZ parts guy at their Sacramento facility (that may make a difference, too).
The owner of AtoZ is or was a WL owner, so they were somewhat WL friendly, at least at some time in the past.

A2Z in riverside CA area Colton 800.437.5522 they seem to have more coach parts
and resources for them . there are 2 wanderlodges at A2Z today. Custom Coach
works (6 miles from A2Z) was also busy when I passed by on the freeway. I
wonder who got the lot in florida?

Tie rod ends/boots/ball joints

Jerry,
They must be common, at least in the FC. When I had mine replaced at Inland truck in Denton they had them in stock and I don't believe that they see very many Wanderlodges!

Take the old tie rod end to either a GOOD HD truck parts store or a HD chassis
shop. Odds are the parts man will take one look and come out with the correct
part. If not all the parts mfrs. have a book that lists the ends by size,
length, etc. These are usually off the shelf parts.

Joe,
Sounds good to me - the part number might help. And, it sounds like I can always have them pull one and match it up if that doesn't work.
Thanks everyone for the great advice - much appreciated!
