Battery cable hot spots, an idea
Good evening everyone:
Much has been discussed here about the recent fires and causes. In Industry there is a service organization that uses infrared film to spot HOT SPOTS in electrical cabinets, load centers and so forth, then those hot spots are addressed immediately. Ok, an idea, after remembering this, is that many owners bought the IR guns to measure heat on the tires and rims after a run. Well I believe that this same gun can be used to spot worn insulation on cables or bad connections or corroded connections and so forth. 1. at a known good cable, point the gun and measure the temp and write it down on top of a tablet page. 2. shoot each connection, write down the connection name or label it and the temp on the IR gun. 3. continue down the cable to see if any rise in temp is evident. This is just an idea, will it find them all, I doubt it but it can be a tool to be used if you have the gun so why not. I did not purchase one or I would start on my FC to spot and hot spots and hot spots are another form of phantom load too.
