Aqua hot leaking diesel
Hi all, We're at SPI and I've noticed that my AQ is leaking fuel. I took the
main burner off and it looks like the outside seal on the fuel pump is leaking a
lot of fuel. has anyone replaced this pump or can I just replace the seal in the
pump???? It was leaking a small amount when I left home, I tightened all the
screw's and that seemed to fix it. Before I arrived here at SPI I filled the
fuel tank on the bus and now the leak is big time, it leak's without using it.
Thanks.

Bob, I believe that Rick Archie has or had the same problem. Perhaps he will see this post. Can you put something under it to collect the fuel? Replacing the Ozite carpet in the bays is quite a chore as it was installed using some outstanding contact cement.

Bob, it must be some sort of SPI infection; I am leaking diesel as well and as far as I can tell it is in that bay. Go figure? The unit works on shore power butthe diesel won't light. At least freezing is not a problem.

ernie, No problem wih the carpet, it's contained within the stainless steel tray
that it sit's in and then drop's thru a hole to the ground. I stopped the leak
today and will investigate more this week. Wallace, when I get mine fixed I
would be happy to take a look at yours.

Bob and Wallace,
The Aqua Hot fuel pump has a tiny cover that once it starts leaking you will
probably just want to replace it. There are also 2 banjo bolts beside the fuel
pump with copper washers, be sure those are tight. If you buy a new fuel pump
from Roger you get 4 new copper washers. You probably also need 4 new rubber
gaskets which seal around the fuel lines and wiring. One easy way to repair this
would be to do an exchange of the whole main burner unit. You send Roger your
burner and he ships a rebuilt one immediately back to you.
On mine I also installed a 1/4 inch ball valve to shut off the fuel. This is
handy when changing nozzles, filters, fuel lines or when you may have a drip.

Hi Rick, Thanks, yes it's around that little cover that mine continues to leak.
I sent Roger a email this morning and I believe I'll probably do a rebuild on my
unit. where did you install the 1/4 inch ball valve at in the system? Thanks
for the info.

Bob,
I put the ball valve on top of the aquahot unit. On mine there is a check
valve in the fuel line, I put the ball valve next to that. While your in there,
you might as well change the fuel line. I used 1/4inch fuel injector hose for
that, available at most auto supply stores.
Another thing I did to simplify future aquahot service work was to add high
quality bullet connectors to the wires which connect the burner to the main
unit. Lee Davis told me this trick. Now when I need service I turn off the fuel,
remove 2 nuts and unsnap the wires and I can take the burner out and work on it
on a bench, instead of working on it in the torture chamber!

You can get an AH fuel pump from a Webasto dealer for about half the price that
AH sells it. I am getting ready to order one. Steve Purdy works for WW
Williams and can help with that. I don't know if he posts here but he does on
the other Forum.
