I just replaced one of my small Shurflos with the 5.7. That way I havea backup already installed, and can use the smaller one when boondocking. Thenew largerone puts out enough extra pressure to make a shower a bit more enjoyable, but it certainly is no inordinate increase in pressure enoughto worry about the Bird not handling it. Didn't get the price David got from Amazon though, and I paid a bit over $200 from Tucson's Camping World.

We had Foretravel of Nacogdoches replace both of our waterpumps last April. They worked fine up until sometime last week. The wife commented that she thought that she had been hearing the water pumps running continuously for several minutes. Oh oh, I thought, empty water tank and a faucet running somewhere; maybe a leak? Nope. Tank is full and faucets all secure. No leaks anywhere. Cycled all of the pump switches on/off. The pump would turn on/off but no suction, no increase in water pressure. Crawled into the pump area to do a visual/feel. Only the top one runs but no suction. The bottom one won't even run. Anyone been there? Thanks.

Ron,

It is highly likely that your problem with your pumps running is that there is
debris in the Sporland valve that controls the filling of your fresh water tank.
Odds are that there is some construction debris that has found it's way to your
Sporland valve. One way you could verify that is to connect a hose to your
water system and fill the tank. Leave the hose connected overnight. If you
find a puddle under your rig and water trickling out your overflow pipe you have
debris in your Sporland valve.

When you are filling your tank try flipping the tank fill switch several times.
It's possible that if there is debris in the Sporland valve seat the water flow
plus flipping the switch might clear the problem.

You guys are great teachers, Thanks to David and all for the info. If I had you folks as teachers when I was going to school, I would be a lot smarter than I am today, and the memory loss wouldn't be as severe, at least percentage wise. Regards to all, George Burke 1977 FC31 Charlotte

Thanks for the input guys. I'm considering all advices. One more test to do
after this monsoon is over with.

Meanwhile:

1:32 PM 2/3/2010
further testing: with water pumps both on/off, i repeatedly cycled the tank fill
valve and it did not jar the pumps to suction. the water hose is connected to
the fill and the water is on.

cycled the water pump switch repeatedly between all 3 positions with 3 faucets
running and the water tank remained full, just like it was when this issue
began; i dumped the gray tank twice during the testing.

When the weather clears we'll see if the top water pump still hums/vibrates when
the pumps are turned on.

To be clear. Once it stops raining fill your tanks until the overflow passes
water. Make sure most of your large water uses are over with for the night.
Leave the water hose connected and your pumps off. (Use water from the garden
hose for the night.) The water overflow will stop dribbling after a couple of
minutes after you turn the "tank fill" switch to off. If the tank continues to
overflow a small amount of water your problem is probably your electrically
operated Sporland water fill valve. If the pump problem goes away you have
cleared the debris from the seat of the valve.

Don't forget to check the screen/filter just before the input for the pump. It's rare, but sometimes that filter will clog.

UPDATE

Thanks for all of the input, much appreciated.

All advice was considered and nothing had worked; except maybe to take the 9
month old pumps apart for cleaning. In fact, we were ready to make the trip to
Foretravel in Nacadoches to have them replace the pumps under the warranty. The
pumps were still down when we left SPI. Along the way, I turned them on and lo
and behold they gradually came all the way back. I noticed iron colored water
and some debris/clogging in the sink faucet filters/screens. So, upon our
arrival in SA, I drained and 'flushed' the water tank, then re-filled it, and
the pumps are again functioning at 100%. Go figure!

Thanks

I've had the same thing at one time or another in every RV I've had. I now install a second punpwith an "A" or "B" switch so I can alternate or isolate one when it quits and fix it when I get home.
