Front wheel seals and bearings - erniecarpet@... - 12-29-2006 10:23
Jeff- on my coach, the tire was defective. Tire looked good. Replaced the 2
front steers and no ticking. It was driving us nuts at slow speed, cause at
high speed, the wind noise counteracted that ticking sound. Bearings-possible?

Hello All
There has been a ticking noise at the left front wheel of the bird
since we put steer tires on 2 seasons ago, you hear it when you get
next to a median wall or go under a bridge. We have taken the wheel
off and inspected it and the bearing twice only for the noise to come
back, should we remove the bearing to see if it is bad? It has been
about 12 to 15 thousand miles like that without a problem.

Jeff,
I remember something said at the RIV this year about the metal stem on the
tires inner tube striking on the brake pad or caliper and that it could cut thru
it and cause loss of tire pressure. Worth checking.

Front wheel seals and bearings - Gregory OConnor - 12-30-2006 04:26
Switch rims/tire assemblies right to left and see if the noise
follows. Paint the stem and see if it strikes off. The ticking may
be a shoe tracking also? if it stops ticking with minimal braking
force it may well be a brake issue. the easy fix for that is to hone
the drums
The good thing with viewable oil bath bearings is you can see when a
bearing is crapping out. the oil gets dirty, kinda muddy looking.
