Engine Noise difference - theronflatlee - 12-28-2007 14:44 Jon-- We have both an '83 FC and an '88 FC. Our '83 is very quiet as it had been re-insulated to the extreme when we got it, but the '88 is even quieter than the '83 at 60 MPH. I think this is mostly because of the higher cruising RPM of the '83 (due to the difference in the rear-end gearing and slight tire size difference). They are both about as quiet or quieter than our 2005 Duramax diesel pickup. I have some hearing loss due to running heavy equipment earlier in my life, and my wife and I can have a conversation at a quieter-than-normal volume in the '88. This is true in the '83 as well, as long as we keep the RPMs down. Jeff --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, brad barton <bbartonwx@...> wrote: > > > I agree. Our 84 FC had the Cat 250hp 3208T. Even with the electric radiator fan turning, it was not much worse than a normal pickup (back then). > Brad Barton 00LXiDFWbbartonwx@... > > > To: WanderlodgeForum@...: billpatty@...: Fri, 28 Dec 2007 16:53:33 +0000Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Re: Engine Noise difference > > > > > Jon,Noise is hard to discribe and it is subjective,With out using a DB noise meter. So , My unscientific opinion:It has been a long time since I drove or rode in a 210, But my opinion is , the 300 Hp is quieter, I feel the turbo helps cancel noises.and mostly the air intake filter in located outside in the passenger side bay under the front bumper.Intakes on most motors transmit motor noise. The insulation on the late model FC's 87,88,89 , is a thick blanket, It looks like heat shield blankets. The Doghouse carpet and padding is thick and plush. No trouble having a normal conversation with Patty the co-pilot.The only person I know is Bob Janes , 87 FC Greenville , N.C.He ownes both a 210NA and the 300 hp turbo.Hope this helps,Bill 88 FC Michigan--- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Jon" 210 HP engine and > then moved on up to a forward control Wanderlodge with a 300 HP engine > forward control?
