LXi Chassis Parrt Number List - rrueckwald - 10-13-2014 23:25

Does anyone know the correct coolant tank cap part number for a Series 60? It would be handy if added to the LXi Chassis Part Number List. Lost mine. Don't ask how.

Stant 10229, 13psi automotive style vented radiator cap available at CarQuest and crossed at all the other stores including Napa. While you're at it pick one up for your Aquahot.

WW Williams in AZ put a 13 psi cap on in 2009 and I have been running 13 psi on my S-60, Aquahot and Kubota ever since. [/size]Revised, original post had a memory glitchConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

Morey,

That's awful high to maintain in a system. While some pressure is a good thing in today's cooling systems, that much sure puts a lot of stress on things. The potential leak will be huge!

30 psi would make sense in outer space, but here on earth we get the first 14.7 psi for free. I wonder if the tech saw a spec for absolute pressure which equals gauge plus atmospheric. With a 13 psi cap the absolute pressure would be 27.7 psi.

John Wyatt referenced a BB drawing that called for a 10 psi cap, BB p/n 1325430. Holland had one on order, but not for days, so I went to NAPA for the Stant 10229 (13 psi). It crossed to a NAPA p/n 703-1697 (13 psi), but the guy searched further and found one of 10 psi. This is NAPA p/n 703-1708. That's what I bought.

Thanks for the discussion. We now know more than we knew a few days ago.

Ron,

Check this out:

Wanderlodge Gurus->Document Library->Engines->Detroit Diesel->DD Series 60 Engine Manual.pdf

Section 6.7.10 specs a minimum cap of 9 psi; figure 6-34 shows the effect of altitude on coolant boiling for a series of cap pressures: a 9 psi cap at see level yields the same boiling point as a 12 psi at 8000 ft.

David,

I just saved that manual. Thanks. Now, to find the time to read it.
