Rear Axle Lubrication - Henry Claeys - 02-27-2006 02:47

(1) What kind of lubrication should I place into the rear axle of my
1979 FC? (2) Should I drain the old lube before adding the new lube,
because I have no idea what kind of lube is in there now. (3) How do
I drain the old lube if I must? I figure that I'll need a pump to suck
the old lube out. Thanks. Henry@... 1979 FC35, McAllen, Tx.

You should find a 3/4 npt plug with a 1/2" square female lug on the bottom of
the pumpkin.
Remove with 1/2" breaker bar. I refilled with 80-140 petro oil.
I'm too cheap to pop for syn oils. Generally fill line is just below the pinion
gear centerline. Pinion gear is on center with drive shaft.
