back up camera solenoid or relay or ??? - Jay Darst - 05-07-2006 14:07

My back-up camera works most of the time. When it doesn't work I get
a blue vertical line on a blank screen. Most of the time, simply
turning off the TV and waiting a few minutes then back on, it works.

Occasionally it doesn't come back on. Have to turn off the ignition
switch and when itd turned back on, the backup camera works again.

My conclusion to this... the relay or solenoid that causes the TV to
show a TV show when key is off and to show the back-up camera when
the key is on,.... is bad.

I want to replace this relay or solenoid. Have looked in the over
head above the driver. I have not found the relay or solenoid yet.

Anybody KNOW where the solenoid or relay IS? If its a weird piece,
where do I get it? What part number is it?

Thanks in advance!,

Jay:

That relay is in the chassis of the CT-911 and was part of the modification
by PMMI. There is a white plug on the back side of the chassis that has 5
wires and more than likely that is where your problem may be.

Thanks Ralph.

The Tv screen is over head, above the windshield, the tuner and
stuff is in the overhead bin on the traffic side above the driver.
Where/what is a CT-911?

The plug itself is the problem?

Thanks again!

back up camera solenoid or relay or ??? - Howard O. Truitt - 05-08-2006 02:04

Ralph,
In my 86 PT40 The backup camera has a paper label on the inside casing that says
Audiotronics is this a Hitachi brand. At times it will play fine then go blank.
I can tap on the case and it will sometimes come back on other times will flash
lines across screen. I have moved wiring around running to case with no results
so I think it must be internal. Is there some place to get it repaired. Your
thoughts please.

back up camera solenoid or relay or ??? - Ralph L. Fullenwider - 05-08-2006 02:41

Howard:

This is the first I have heard of the Audiotronics being used. When Doug
Hampton, of PMMI, sent me the file on the back up camera system, I was
doing a write up on image reversing, there was only the Hitachi CT-911 in
the file.

The image reversing was done via external relays but the Color TV (when
Coach key was off) or the back up camera ( when Coach key was in the run
position) is done with an internal solid state relay.

Your problem sounds more like a cold solder joint or bad variable resistor
(pot) on the chassis part of the system.

As to service, I honestly do not know. PMMI did change some of the
circuitry by adding the solid state relay and there were a couple of board
traces cut and re directed in the gain control section. The P to P and
voltages remained the same though. So a competent TV repair should be able
to help you.

back up camera solenoid or relay or ??? - Jeff Miller - 05-08-2006 08:38

This is the '86-up monitor, I believe they later became Dotronix.

Your problem is a common one. If you remove the monitor (fairly simple
in your coach with the overhead mount), it can be repaired. I have
found that the daughter-board has an edge connector which is prone to
solder-joints failing, probably from vibration. Re-soldering the
connector on the daughter-board and mother-board should (and has always
for me) fix the problem. Supporting the board so that it can't as
easily vibrate/move should also prevent the problem in the future.

That is also a great time to reverse the image so that you can install
a new camera. The red and blue wires on the two-pin connector on the
mother-board need to be cut and reversed (red to blue, blue to red),
then a new BNC-type camera can be used. I've been very happy with ultra-
low-light .003 lux B&W cameras from Supercircuits.com, much cheaper
cameras are available from them and others also. The Dotronix monitor
is B&W.

Do you or anyone else have a mother board schematic for the Audiotronic back up
