3208 thermostat housing removal, How do you get the dang thing off. - jim matus - 05-29-2006 14:29 I just rebuilt my fan assy.,and the water pump belt idler so I figured I would change the thermostats while I was in the front. I took out the 3 bolts but there are 2 studs w/nuts that won't come out. The stud turns with the nut but doesn't back out. I have the Cat shop manual and it shows a different water neck. Is the 180 degree neck a Blue bird Item? Are the studs really bolts put in from the backside of the thermostat housing before it is installed? I don't want to damage the casting and I don't know if I need to split the nuts on the studs or what. Also if anyone wants to rebuild their idler assy. I can give you the Cat part#s for the parts you need. About $40.00 worth of parts instead of $375.00 for a new idler assy. Thanks Jim Matus 1984FC35SB Rescue CA 3208 thermostat housing removal, How do you get the dang thing off. - dan - 05-29-2006 15:29 I seem to remember that stud goes all the way through and there is a nut on the other side. You can reach it with an open end wrench.
