1978 air srep - Gardner Yeaw - 08-17-2006 14:21
I have downloaded the file from the 'files' section and hope it is
close to the 1978 step control. My step retracts but doesn't extend.
This weekend I plan to try to get it working. Has anyone out there
worked with a 1978 step? Is ti the same wiring as the one in the Files
section?

Gardner,
The air step is very dangerous to work on. Be aware of your body
parts (particularly your head) when working on wiring/switches/
valves, etc. located near the operating mechanism. The air step can
extend or retract without warning. We want you to be a long-term BB
owner!

Pete,
Thanks for the warning. I am not new to mechanical things, but
sometimes I can be inatentive and shortsighted. What I plan to do is
disconnect the piston and work from there. That means I need to push
the step in and out to activate the right switches at the right
stage, but I will save my head, fingers, etc!

Gardner,
There is atleast one or two micro-switches, that are trouble makers.
And also the switch in the door jam.
The air solenoid switch can sometimes be taken apart, cleaned and
lubricated. Check the ground wires.
There is a write up in the files somewhere and on the Vintage site.

I have redrawn my wiring diagrams to schematics, and I only have one relay to
work with, not the 4 like on the SP. Eventually if all goes well I will
download them into the files section as well.
