Fans in the gen compartment - Scott Forman - 01-12-2008 11:55

On the ceiling of my generator compartment, I have two small squirrel-
cage fans that blow into a large rubber hose that exits under the bus.
I assume these are supposed to exhaust heat from the gen area, but does
anyone know what makes them run? Are they thermostat controlled? Best
I can tell, mine never run, and I am considering removing them to
facilitate some new sound deadening.

Anyone know anything about these?

HI Scott:

Those fans only come on when the gen set is running. There is a silver
solenoid near the front of the gen set compartment on the curb side and
that is where the 12 vdc comes to run those fans.

Most of those fans are DOA and when I have re insulated the gen set
compartment, I take them down but I do put them back up even if not
running. one can happen upon working fan motors from time to time and it is
an easy replacement.

Many owners have just taken the fans out and tossed them too. Depends on
your mind set at the time.

Safe travels,
