The water filter on my 1985fc developed a leak. I removed it and
bypassed it. Do I track down the original part or does anyone have a
replacement. Thanks...

Buy a small domestic system Lowes Home Depot have them Easier to buy
the filters and replacement parts

To ALL birders.
What kind of a potable water filter you all use. The reason I am asking this is
because my coach came with a Bactereostatic filter mounted under my bed. This
thing came from Louisiana and caost 10 years ago $400.00. It works fine but
seems rather pricey.
I use a regular 5 - micron sediment filter at the camp water outlet and the
water then goes through the bacteiostatic to the tank. Use a small (0.5 micron)
filter in kitchen for drinking, coffee, ice etc.
Is there something new or different on the market today???

I just use one of those cheap attachment types that go on sink faucet or just
drink bottled water. I guess if I were to be out full timming I would want
something to filter the main water coming out of the system but I don't so
bottle water seems the best to us.

Juergen -

We have an Everpure filter under the galley that supplies a small water tap on
the galley sink. (No point in running wash water through this filter.)

This is the filter cartridge:

The cartridge mounts in a filter head similar to this:

Also, all the water entering the coach flows through a 10 micron filter that
mounts on the side of the coach anytime a hose is connected.

My '86 PT-40 has a heavy, large diameter PVC water filter under the
bed. Looks original. Anyway, it developed a hairline crack, so I
pulled it out and bypassed it while I figure out what to do.
Questions:

1. What's the purpose of this thing? Looks like it filters incoming
water, but for what?
2. Should I replace it? If so, is there a recommended replacement model?

Hi Ryan;
The original filter was a silver impregnated material that was very efficient in
delivering good water from across a world wide span of water treatments or lack
of.
These unit were and are expensive but available. Now then, with that said a
filter system of some sort is definitely needed and should be re installed. You
can go with a replaceable cartridge type or?
I suggest the files section be researched or do a search for water filter in the
messages and you should get hits on the subject.

Mine is disconnected long ago. Note to cap off the air supply, as I had a situation where an air leak from that line prevented the coach from airing up.
