Dear dorn,

They are basically exactly the same units, but below is an explanation:

This line consisted of models RV2012M, RV2512M, and RV3012M, which were 2000, 2500 and 3000 watts respectively. These units were only used for Monaco coaches, and the M designation referred to a series of default programming items requested by Monaco. (See the section on "RC7 & RC7GS Setup Menus".)

Two knockouts on the inverter were left open at the factory. Otherwise they were physically indistinguishable from the regular version, and had no other unique features. Warranty is the same.

The "software" defaults which may be different from standard models were:

SEARCH SENSE – DEFEAT

BAT CAPACITY – AUTO

BAT TYPE – LIQUID LEAD ACID

CHARGE RATE – 80%

Yes, both models were designed for RV use.

Description: Can you explain the differences between RV3012M and other RV3012 models. What does M series software mean? Are these models still suitable for an RV application?

RV 3012 M - bumpersbird - 05-21-2008 11:03

Here is my responce from Xantrex to the RV3012M question.

I am awaiting a second e-mail to confirm if the new control panel
the RC/GS will funtion as well as the older RC7.

According to my local tech guy it will. You should be able to set
the inverter/charger to your particular application.

Dear Kurt Horvath,

They are very similar units. Below is an explanation of the RV3012M
model and then the RV 3012 GS :

The RV3012M, which is 3000 watts respectively. These units were only
used for Monaco coaches, and the M designation referred to a series
of default programming items requested by Monaco. (See the section
on “RC7 & RC7GS Setup Menus”.)

Two knockouts on the inverter were left open at the factory.

version, and had no other unique features. Warranty is the same.

The "software" defaults which may be different from standard models
were:
SEARCH SENSE – DEFEAT
BAT CAPACITY – AUTO
BAT TYPE – LIQUID LEAD ACID
CHARGE RATE – 80%

The RV 3012 GS is the newer version that replaced the RV series.
This series looks almost the same as the original RV and largely has
the same specs and functions. Its main visual distinction is that
it only has two com ports, not three. There were a few enhancements
made with the Auto Gen Start feature and programming.

Both models were designed for RV use.

"RV3012 M be reprogramed to standard specs? If so what would the
cost be?"

You could program it yourself if you have a RC7, but if you do not
have an RC7 then you might be able to locate one by doing a "google"
search of the dealers online otherwise they are no longer available
as they have been obsolete for awhile now.

It would be good to update the system rather than repair the freedom
if they are really 15 years old.

I suggest the newer RV 3012 GS model rather than the "M" model.

But if it is a big difference in cost the "M" model will be fine if
an RC7 comes with it.

RV 3012 M - Dorn Hetzel - 05-22-2008 02:13

Well, I've ordered one of those RV3012M units. At $670 including shipping it seems worth taking the chance.

My present unit is just a battery charger with no inverter function anyway, and it seems to be dying, so with or without the proper RC unit it will be an upgrade Smile

RV 3012 M - Kurt Horvath - 05-22-2008 03:03

Dorn,

On ebay, type in Xantrex and scroll to page 3 or 4, there is an outfit in Mo. that has 15 -RC7 controlers for sale. They are not in origonal packaging but he states they are perfect condition. E-Bay Item number: 380027259205.

I'm still deciding what to do. The problem is should I place these new inverters back in the same place or move them into to thebay with the tool box and loose my BBQ grill.

Re routing all thoses cables is like reinventing the wheel.

RV 3012 M - joepat50 - 05-22-2008 05:18

Ya,

I got one too and the RC7 display... Seems like a good replacement for
the Pace1500 :}

I called Xantrex and asked about the grounding issue in the manual and
its not a problem. Only thing you lose by not having the chassis
ground going through the inverter is the DC load info. You still get
the charge current and AC load info.

Since we have the shunts to read that info anyway I dont see that as a
big concern...

Hi Kurt,

Did you receive a response from Xantrex about the RC/GS remote to
control this RV 3012 M? I am thinking about ordering one too &
replace all of the old components such as the Redline unit in my PT.
Can't find any info about the two working together.

RV 3012 M - Curt Sprenger - 05-29-2008 09:30

If I understand the research I did, the RC7/GS works with the older RV3012 and it works with the newer GS (Gen. Start) model. The RC7 is for the older unit, the RC7/GS works for both the old and new units. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Check ebay http://tinyurl.com/457nr2 for the RC7/GS remote control. Eight of them available.

Can't find any info about the two working together.

Otherwise they were physically indistinguishable from the regular

version, and had no other unique features.

Terry,

Here is the responce from Xantrex Customer Serive.

I did buy 2 of these units. They are new in the box and Sun Electric
is an aurthorized dealer so the warrantie should be good.

I spoke with several tech guys and of course got several diffrent
answers. About all aspects of these units.

I was most impressed with a guy from Buddy Gregg Motorhomes in
Knoxville TN. Wayne Clapp a veteran BB Tech. His first question was
did I plan on keeping the coach? Well of course. Then you must get
these inverters out of the engine compartment and into one of the
bays. So were are going the reinvent the wheel. Not really a problem
the old compartment is really not large enough for the new inveters.

With the inverter box empty I think I'll throw in a couple more
Lifeline gell cells. That will make 8 house batts. Wayne also told me
he can with the addition of a few relays make the AC run on Batts.
With the additional 2 Lifeline's and the 2 new invetrers running off
of 8 Batts. in 2, four Batt. banks I should be able to run 2 AC'S.
The 300 amp alternator should be able to tow the line. I would be
nice to run the roof air with out the generator. Any help in fuel
economy is welcomed.

Any body want to buy a electric grill for their coach? Mine is coming
out, slide and electric components included.

I also bought 2 RC7/GS controlers off of e-bay. The were the best
deal for the $'s.

RV 3012 M - Terry Neal - 05-30-2008 04:59

Thanks Kurt. Nice report.

I too was getting differing stories from different people. One of the
techs at Xantrex told me Sun Electronics wasn't even an authorized
dealer or distributor & there was no record of them in their
listing. Of course, he didn't speak English that I could understand
real well so he may have be sitting in Bombay? Also, he kept saying
there was no RV 3012 "M" inverter either.

In my PT, to install an inverter outside the engine compartment means I
change a lot of wiring. Yours is probably the same. May be the best
solution though. I was also thinking I may be able to build a
compartment where the Rediline used to be and put it in there? Like
your idea of running a couple of ACs with the Detroit while underway.
I take it you are going to wire your system with the Gen Start
feature. That would be a good idea too.

Do you have a time frame for all of this? I may wait a little while to
see how you accomplish all of the changes. Please share your progress
with us. I much appreciate it.

Dear kurt daniel horvath,

"Can the RC/GS Remote Panel be use in place of the RC7."

No , this will not work properly. You are better off trying to locate

an RC7 by seaching the internet and the many dealers who may have a

NOS unit.

"Is the 24 month warrantie good on these new in the box units?"

If the unit is new in the box and purchased from proper dealer who

purchased it from a Xantrex Distributor than we shall honor the

warranty.

Dear Mr.Nick Klien.

Can the RC/GS Remote Panel be use in place of the RC7.

If so, are there any peculiarities involed or is it just a simple

choice of which control is available.

Yes price is a consideration here the old unites are new and are an

exceptional deal at this time.

Thank You for your time,

Kurt Horvath
