Right behind the cornering lamp at my entry step is a small 1 inch
diameter by 5 inch long cylinder with an air line that comes to it. The
cylinder is leaking out the end of it- only with the step retracted. Is
this a rebuildable item or is a new purchase warranted. Ernie-83PT40 in

Air leak - Blair - 05-26-2005 00:46

Stephen,
That cylinder is a one way job.... spring return...when the rod
gets bent a little, which
it does when it acts as a safety latch, air will leak around the rod and it
gets harder to retract
as the spring does not have enough umph to push it back... poor design..

Air leak - Larry Watson - 02-12-2006 14:26

Hi all,

I wonder if there is anyone here who might help me figure out an air
leak on a 1987 PT40. I have posted a photo in the photos section in
LWatson album. The part that is leaking is located curb side in the
engine compartment between the batteries and the engine. I'm guessing
I will probably have to replace it, whatever it is, but not sure where
to get one. Any help would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry Watson

Air leak - Ralph L. Fullenwider - 02-12-2006 14:45

Larry:

That is the pressure reducing valve/regulator, BB part number # 1089436. It
reduces the coach air to 80 to 90 psi for the cruise control and is also
part of the air throttle air system.

Safe travels,

Air leak - Larry Watson - 02-16-2006 01:25

Ralph,

Thank you very much for your reply. The new part is on the way from
BB! By the way, Earl gave me a new/different part number than the one
you have (1087436 vs 1089436)but when I questioned him he said he
would gladly exchange it if the one I receive turns out to be the
wrong one. I guess that's fair enough! We'll see! Anyway, thanks again!

Larry

Air leak - Gardner Yeaw - 08-20-2006 12:53

I have an air leak in the front of my 78FC33. Lying on the ground
and reaching up in the left front there is what looks like a
distribution valve. It has at least two thin black hoses attached
with screw on caps. When I shut off the coach it leaks for a few
minutes then stops. The brake tanks keep about 75 lbs of preasure,
but the step stops working.

There is a tube that is designed to have a rubber hose sliped over
it on one side of the valve, I can't see it, but that is where the
air is leaking from, It seemed odd that there would be a slip on
connection when all the others are the standard black tube with a
screw on connector.

Does anyone have any idea what this valve may be for? I had read
that the cruise control used air passing over a venturi to generate
vacuume, could this be it?

Thanks
Gardner
