Dinghy Odometer Reading - revisit - snowbirdtogo - 06-08-2005 09:05

This past week I towed our 1990 Acura Legend down to Myrtle Beach SC
and back. I left the ignition key in position I (accessory)on way
down, odmeter still worked (443 miles), and position II(on)on way home
which also had the odometer working (446 miles). I didn't think the
Acura had a speedometer cable but maybe it does or I have to
disconnect some fuse to temporarilly disable the odometer. Any more
suggestions.

Dinghy Odometer Reading - revisit - George Lowry - 06-08-2005 12:11

Hi Roy,

I'm no expert but we have a friend with an Acura toad and it seems
like they had to insert the key into a slot on the shift console to
disengage the speedo. Just checked with Edythe and she said that she
puts the key in a slot on the console next to the shifter and moves
the shifter from park to neutral; Then takes the key out and puts it
in the ignition and turns it to the first click. Hers was a '92
Accord but those Hondas are all about the same. Something to check
anyway....

George,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will inspect console for a key
slot. My wife's 1990 Acura was the last year for the first body style and
they made a lot of changes in 1991, hope the key slot isn't one of them.

I checked car and it does have the slot which does let me
position the ignition key in lock position without locking steering wheel,
but with a speedometer cable it might not matter. I suspect the 1991 on
Acuras have electronic speed sensors instead of a cable. Hope springs
eternal and I will give it a try when my daughter and I shove off for summer
long trip. Thanks for response. Roy
