Can anyone tell me the turbo boost pressure you have under load with a
8v92. I have 15 pound and have been told that my turbo boost should be
about 24 pounds.

HI ???,

Talk to Pius at Bell Turbo in Stockton, CA. He is one of the most
knowledgeable people on turbos in the country. His turbos have been
on the fastest Diesels in the world....

My book says low 20s for the 1987 8V92. I believe it's 22 or 23 lbs.

Pius is a right knowledgeable fellow, however he takes in more than he can get
done. Can't say no. Typical for rocket scientist types. His strength is his
ability to spec a proper turbo by mfr. and part number. He will need the
injector size of the engine and will ask hard questions about the state of tune,
and overall condition of the engine. He can be hard to get on the phone as he
gets many calls daily.

Check the piping from the exhaust manifold to the turbine housing, I
will bet you have a leak. the flanges do rust and the drivers side
connector has a expansion joint that tends to rust and leak. boost
pressure is dependant on all exhaust gases going thru the turbine. There
must not be any leaks.. Curt is correct 23 lbs.

Well, Mike,

I have had Pius build up turbos for two different engines and both were
ready right when he said they would be. Neither was a stock turbo so
it was not something he could pull off the shelf. He does stand
behind his work so he is particular about getting the right data so he
can provide the proper turbo.

Don't get your shorts in a bunch George, Pius and I really understand each other
and he is a great guy. Not every one is senstive to consumer issues and
expectations can be easily overblown. Just a little disclaimer, personal
resposibility your know.

John:

Boost comes from a lot more than the turbo, it can even be your gauge
readings. What max. temp are you running on the EGT/Pyrometer?

Boost comes from the exhaust heat/flow spinning the turbines, yada
yada, but if you don't have enough fuel there won't be as much power
and boost, same thing with less air, engine tune, timing, ...

Start with the simple stuff, look at the air filter. Check the intake
stack and screen, the air filter and housing, exhaust pipe, your fuel
filters, and throttle travel/pressure. Sometimes a wire-tie will make
a good teltail to show how far the throttle is moving as it will
slide the wire-tie down as it moves, could be low air-pressure to
your throttle or a simple adjustment. Also make sure that your
emergency shutoff flap is fully open, the cable housing can burn and
then the cable can't properly open/close the shutoff flap so check it
manually from the rear.

If all else fails, perhaps a trip to the chassis dyno at your
neighborhood DD stealership will tell whether the engine is due for a
tune.
