ZF transmissions--any info -help or just your commets and mechs~
I would like any and all info about these trans and fixes and what to
try and repair ahead of time....the net has little info yet i know its
somewhere as they use these trans in trains and lots of europe
trucks/buses......they thumb their noses at allison but off topic.

also has anyone got the trans reprogramed to the 6th gear that is avil
in these trans???

they are a plantery elec shift trans with a converter

My new to me 90 sp has a tran ft seal leak and it will not shift if in
the power mode......The other owner just had it changed to mtr oil
which i have found out is incorrect for the bus application with tran
temp running at 225 something is wrong.

I will get it fixed or replaced if i have too but think its a KISS
deal with the proper input from you all.

any and all help is needed

feel free to email me at

Woody: Our 88 has the ZF. Your post is the first I have ever heard
about another gear. I remember reading something about sending your
control box to ZF in Chicago and they would reprogram the shift points.
Apparently the trannie out of the box was not designed for MH's. I do
know that the ZF website had something about motor oil not being the
best lubricant.
