Removing ceramic tile from a Bird.

Removing a piece of the sub-floor was not that difficult. Ran a
circular saw along in front of the cabinets -- the trick was to get
the depth just right -- then removed as many screws as I could see.
Next was application of a couple of pry bars -- I discovered that in
addition to the obvious screws at regular intervals along the edges
of the plywood, there were screws in the field in random locations.
Of course, many of those were _under_ the remains of the Wonderboard.
So, some "persuasion" with pry bars was required to remove the
desired section. All-in-all, only took about an hour (at my pace) and
there were no serious complications. Once I realized that there were
screws randomly placed, I was able to look for them and take 'em out
--- reducing the brute force removal to a very few. (Brute force
generally pulled the screw from the plywood, leaving it in the steel
under-floor -- where I could then simply unscrew it. I now have a
section of under-floor about 22 x 96 inches exposed. As it happens, I
have some exterior grade plywood of the right thickness on hand that
I can cut to fit. For me, I think this was the right way to go.

For the small bit of tile/Wonderboard mastic debris that remains on
the surrounding area, I think my Rotozip with angle grinder/sander
attachment is likely to clean it up fairly well...
