One more tip on fuel blow back--was--Re: Re: Fuel blow back
Hi, all--
Meant to respond to this thread earlier. . .The FuelKleen Splash Absorbing Collar sounds great, and I'm sure we'll be purchasing one, but here's one more tip. Most of you probably know this already (and, apologies if someone covered it already), but we sure didn't until we recently refueled for the first time at a popular truck-stop along I-5 (noticed the cheapest diesel prices in the whole area): if you're using what's known as a high-velocity pump (not necessarily common at regular gas stations, but used at many of the truck-stops 'cuz otherwise, it would take forever to fill huge truck tanks), you can avoid fuel blow back by using the lowest setting/notch on the pump handle. In this case, Stew only avoided being covered in diesel by virtue of the fact that he had inserted the pump handle (with it set to the highest notch setting--unknowingly to us, the highest truck-velocity setting) into the coach, and then had stepped back to the pump to start everything up--resulting in diesel blowing back all over the place. At least Stew was out of range! A guy at the next pump explained what was going on and said to set the pump handle at the lowest notch. Again, if you're relatively new to RVing as we are, how do ya necessarily know these things? Oh, well, live and learn! Please do not send me any gifts or prizes for this valuable information; your dry clothes are thanks enough for me. I did several searches at west marine and did not find it.
