Central Vacuum

[olson_phil]

Does anyone know how to remove a central vac on an 83 FC35SB? I have
removed six screews that were holding it into the wood frame, and am
able to raise it slightly, but can't get it out. Any help would be
appreciated.

Phil,
I had to take mine out and I believe the hidden screws are behind
the on/off switch plate. I had to remove the switch and remove a
screw or 2 back there.
Mine had quit working and a local vacuum shop repaired the motor
for me for about 50 bucks. I was ready to replace the entire thing,
but he said they were easy to fix. Did it in a day and didn't even
have to order parts.

Thanks George. On mine, the on-off switch is located on the wall
inside the cabinet, about 2 feet away from the vacuum. Does the
electrical cord that runs from the switch to the vacuum have to be
disconnected at the switch or is there an electric disconnect
somewhere under the unit?

Phil,
Well, THAT changes everything. ;o)
Mine is behind the stepwell cover (when it's up) and mounted in
the side of the cabinet to the right of the entry door. The switch is
right next to it.
I think I disconnected the power wire at the switch and fed the
wire back into the vacuum to get the vacuum out. If I remember right,
I also had to disconnect the (vacuum) exhaust air piece. The air from
the vacuum exhausts out the coach floor into the propane tank area.
So, you're probably caught up with the power wire and exhaust
plumbing. It wasn't that easy for me to figure out, either, and I'm a
car mechanic. LOL

I agree with others, probably either the wire or the PVC exhaust pipe
through the floor. The pipe is held by silicone seal, easy to pull free.
