I'll leave the rebuilding to the folks who do those things. I do have the
Series 92 Service Manual that according to its abstract covers servicing on-highway, industrial, generator set and marine applications of the Series 92. It is a three volume set. Nick Stanko in Austin re-built his 6V92 and his Perkins in his 83
PT40. Said the parts cost him more to re-build the Perkins than the DD! Nick is a member of the forum and his email is njstanko@... if you want to contact him offline. Joe, I have the shop manual for the V92 engines on CD. They are on eBay
for $15-20. Parts manual is a different story. I have a set & they cost me $160.00 used. Yes, I believe that it does. I also have the complete Jacobs Brake
service manual for my "Retarder". I don't have the Detroit Jacobs "Exhaust" Brake, just the electric retarder. Had the chance to buy the engine exhaust brake a while back & passed. The electric model serves me well. What is it you need Ernie? My Jake brake and high idle is inoperative. This happened after the shop
replaced that leaky gasket on my way to Montana last year. makes going down some of these "hills" interwesting. I've learned how to make do without, but would like to have them both working, again. rebuilt own 6V92
Hello,
I picked up the shop manual(s), and then the parts manual on eBay. Total was under $100 w/shipping. At some point the shop manual was broken into two separate volumes in three ring binders. The older single volume service manuals are fairly cheap. You should try to get a manual with a printing date of near or after your engine manufacture date. Your local DD dealer can point out part numbers that have changed due to improvements (or at least give you a heads up so you don't buy an obsolete partâespecially if you have an older manual). There are CD's out there that have the military version of the service manual. If you like cartoons and few words, they might work for you. They do show different views than the printed manual for just about everything, and simplify maintenance to some extent. You could get by w/o this, but not the printed service manual if you actually need to do the work. I don't know if I'd want to tackle an in frame rebuild w/o out the help or guidance of an experienced diesel mechanic. You will be digging in pretty deep. Parts are fairly inexpensive. Regards, Don Duncan 1987 PT40 8V92TAC Beaverton, Oregon |
