Can someone with hydraulic+safety latch describe how the operation is
controlled?

With the my electric generator slide (presumably rack and pinion gearing,
although I haven't looked to see for sure) the control is in the left front
compartment with the radiator and battery. There would be no way to open the
generator if I had to hold a latch at the same time - would require two people.

The safety latch on the hydraulic genset tray systems is a slide bar
locking assembly controlled manually by a bar handle sticking out the
front of the tray, which you push one way or the other to lock/unlock.
When locked, the bar ends then stick through holes in the frame
rails. There is a switch sensor that is activated when the bar is
locked in place. If not locked in place, a warning light on the dash
turns on.

Sounds like BB went to the electric ram sometime in 1986, that did not
need the slide bar lock, based on recent posts.

The hydraulic rams operate via an in/out toggle switch in the driver's
side front outside compartment on a PT, same place as the electric
controlled ram on my 91. The genset hydraulic rams run off the same
pump system as the HWH jacks.

Interesting. Mine doesn't have that lever (lock) either. However, it has a
electric screwjack instead of a air or hydraulic cylinder. Before we bought
this coach I looked at an '86PT that did have the lock & lever. (I don't
remember how the gen. drawer was moved). There is no evidence that a lock was
ever this coach. I thought that because mine used a screwjack that BB figured
that was sufficient. But you know, the pins holding the thing on could either
break or just fall out. I check them quite regularly. This is on my to-do list
to fix it somehow.

Scott,

'86 PT-40 here. I have a lock. Big black lever on the front. I would
expect you should have one, too. Do you have the corresponding dash
light?? I have a red light on the dash that will come on if the gen
tray is unlocked. The digitel will also complain about it.

I'd find out why you don't have one - previous owner modification is
my guess - and get it fixed. I'd imagine this is a critical safety
feature to keep the genset in the coach. You'd hate to lose the entire
unit into the back of a compact if you had to come to a quick stop and
the hydraulics decided not to hold it.

Can Anyone Help??? Stuck with an extended generator... 84PT40!!!!
Scott,
The ram is the safety catch. When it starts clicking it is fully extended.
