LXi headlight surround/bumper

Folks,

Anyone have a solution for adhering the black bumper/
headlight surround on the front of the LXi. As many of
you know, this faux bumper is merely a plastic outer
shell (housing the turn signal and headlight coverings), glued
to a plastic inner shell which holds four studs enabling the
whole assembly to be attached to the front end-cap. On
the LXi, the headlight surround often separates from the
inner plastic shell. If one happens to lose a surround on the
road, BB will provide a new one for the not-so-small sum
of $1500 per side! Mine are working loose and I'd like
to reattach them to the inner plastic shell. Anyone have a
good solution for doing this? Glues, bolts, grommets,
rivets... Any first hand experience?

I used liquid nails to reinforce mine last year...so far so good.
There are different types of liquid nails, get the one that works on
plastic. Home Depot/Lowes I had no idea those cost that much. I will
be watching them closely.

Hi Slim,

Gluing is probably the best choice. The
problem is that the original glue is gooped onto
the surface and is impossible to remove w/o
damaging the bumper. Whatever adhesive is chosen,
it has to be very forgiving of the original glue
remnants. The outer and inner bumpers are plastic.
Anyone have additional suggestions for plastic to plastic
adhesives? I assume that some sort of urethane would
be the best. While I'm in there, I'm replacing the headlight
clear plastic shield with 1/8" tempered glass. This may
at some point become rock damaged. So, to add to
the complexity, I'd like an adhesive which holds, but
also allows me to disassemble the two parts if
glass replacement becomes necessary...

I noticed at the RITV last year a couple of people had removed the
clear plastic headlight cover completely from the cover assembly.
To tell the truth it looked very nice. It beats the oxidized clear
lens. I'll probably do the same if need be. I think in the meantime
I'll go out and liquid nail the entire cover to the bus to keep them
from being stolen after finding "ouch" what they cost.

Slim and David,
I have the same problem..scratched hazed headlight covers..one of which had to
be reglued. I like your idea of glass covers..maybe scrap auto glass. Cheaper
window glass is probably okay though. I've enclosed a link to one of the many
plastic headlight protectors. They're frequently used on older Mercedes whose
headlight lenses are often $90 or more. When I bought my coach from Paul Davis,
Ryan refinished the plastic bumper cover, but didn't polish the headlight
covers.
I have to replace the "A" water pump and toilet compressor. I assume I'll go
back with OEM parts unless anyone has a better idea. Brad Barton

Slim, David,
That is what I did to mine. Looks great and no more problems with
dirt accumulating between the headlights and the "clear" cover. Works
for me!
