New Questions: jack springs,upholstery,microwave,fridge

Our new to us Fc does not have the original Sharp conevction/micro.
It has been replaced with a conventional micro. Is there a currently
mfd. easily obtainable micro/convection that will fit in that space?

The left rear jack has one spring that is disconnected at the
bottom. We tried quickly to reconnect but this seems like an
impossible task and did not have a lot of time. Does the jack have
to be removed to replace the spring? Is there a "trick" method? I
notice that one of the jacks had heavy s hooks at the bottom to
connect the springs.

At one time the original owner removed the booth dinette and
installed a bed. This has been removed and the booth reinstalled.
They did a nice job but on the outer wall under the table the white
pleated upholstery(same as headliner) has been removed and the outer
steel wall is visible. Can this material still be obtained?

The fridge is still the original. The unit has very low miles
(64,000) and hasnt been used much. Although the 3801 Dometic still
works my own experience is that it probably will not last long. Am I
right in that belief or would you just use it till it goes (usually
when you are in the hills 2000 miles from nowhere)?

using it. ( when else would it quit ? ) Things always cost more and
are more inconvenient on the road.
Replaced it last Fall with a Dometic, RM 2820. It is a really snug
fit, we did not want to loose the cabinet at the top or the drawer
at the bottom, So we installed it ourselves.
Some installers have changed these two storage areas to make things
fit. IF you decide to replace the frig. we can give a few
suggestion.

If you are on your way from Ohio to park the Bird in Mexico, while
living in Canada, I strongly suggest that you stop and have

Microwave: I'm told that there is still a Sharp manufactured, one
sold by Sears, Elmer should have the model number on that one.

The jack springs: On our '88, I found it easiest to put the bottom of
the spring on first, then the top with a prybar. there shouldn't be
any s-hooks.

That is the wide-rib wall/ceiling materal, it was available a couple
of years ago from BB, not sure if it still is. Good luck.

3801 Refrig: I have at least one set of all of the electtronics,
burner, etc. for that unit (donated by Bill and I don't remember who
else). If you need any of it, I'd love to see it find a good home. I
threw away the last pile of used Dometic electronics, ... I'm told
the 3801 is an expensive board so I've resisted tossing it so far.

I will be surprised if the original refrigerator will stay more than
25degrees above outside temp. It will probably freeze well, but the
refrigerator section will be weak, so on an 85degree day, ... the
math is ugly for your lunch meat. You won't find out until it is warm
out, the refrigerator is loaded with your favorite foods, and you're
on a trip. Replace the refrigerator, or at least the cooling unit if
you have a particular love for that unit.

shocked at the price is around 250.00 a sheet nuless there has been a
recent pricwe dorp but i dont think so

Bruce if you were keeping your bird in Canada or US I would say keep the
refrigerator until goes. You can keep things pretty cool with a block or two
of ice in the old box. However I wouldn't want to be somewhere remote where I
wouldn't be able to get a new unit within a week or so. Congratulations on

You may be able to stretch or pry the spring and add flat
wooden spacers in between the spring coils,
After a few spacers the spring may be longer.
I have never attemped this task.
Where in Ohio? We are just North of Toledo

Hello Bruce,

This worked for me:

Place the spring on a sturdy work bench and extend it with a come-a-long. Cut a
number of small wooden blocks and place these in the open spaces of the extended
spring and then let the pressure off the spring. It will collapse to an
extended length. Reinstall the spring on the jack. When you then extend the
jack all the way down the blocks are easily removed.

This procedure takes some practice but did work. Be sure the spring is
installed as to counter the sideways force of it's partner spring or the jack
will be twisted.
