Water leak...

First of all I want to thank everyone for the replies...all were very
helpful! I got the spoiler off and am in the process of cleaning off
the sealant that was between it and the roof. I agree that it is
probably un-necessary to seal all the way around the spoiler. I think
when I replace it I will mainly just seal around where the screws
enter the roof.

Rob, I found that Home Depot had a Butyl sealant. It Dap Butyl-Flex
rubber sealant. It says Gutter & Flashing on the tube. It was about
$3.50 for the 10oz. tube. McCoys hardware had the NP-1 as well.

Check with any major builders supply house or professional painters supply. They
should have a number of different sealants and someone on staff should be able
to recommend the proper product.

David I have bought butyl tape at paint and body shop suppliers. It is
usually used to seal windshields. I believe you can buy it in both tape and
liquid form. I use the tape and pull small pieces off and wind them around
each SS lag screw I put into a roof.

I just wanted to update my situation. I ended up pulling off the
spoiler and cleaning up everything as well as possible. I used the
NP-1 around all the screws to reattach the spoiler. I wish I had been
able to get it done a little earlier, but it had about 4 or 5 hours of
sunny hot weather to cure before it started pouring rain again. Went
inside and so far everything was still dry as a chip! I just hope that
was long enough for the NP1 to cure. Thanks again for all the replies

I use NP-1 daily. It's nasty @#$% but it works. If it was applied on a dry
substrate metal or otherwise you should be OK. I wouldn't think rain would
effect it after 5 hours.

Side note. I used NP-1 to apply the polished stainless upgrade on my coach about
1 year ago. It is still there.
