alternator problem
hi everyone. we made our second run of the year (250 miles r.t.) this
past weekend. before returning home i lifted the doghouse lid to check oil, belts, etc. i noticed the bottom bolt on the back of the alt loose and as i was tightening it i noticed that a condensor wire attached to the back of tha alt was burnt. i traced it to the indicator light post. it is a single wire that attaches to the post and runs to a condensor looking piece. the wire had detached from the condensor. i removed the wire and condensor. the coach ran fine coming home with no noticeable charging or noise problems. any advice??? orpllew 78fc cole camp missouri |

This is a noise filter for the alternator. I removed mine from

alternator problem
It sounds like the "condensor" device you describe
is the radio/sound system "shunt" (1" diameter, by 2-3" long, tubular paper capacitor which shunts extraneous A.C. current to ground) which generally removes the "generator whine" from audio devices such as the sound system and radios, and possibly TV video interference, when the coach engine is operating and the engine alternator is providing current. If you discover irritating sounds/interference to electronic gadgets, you might consider replacing the device. Otherwise, in general, no harm, no foul.
