Painting where clearcoat has peeled
I have not found anybody who can translate my paint codes into anything, but the
reader at the local Dupont dealer made about as close to a perfect match as was possible, to my untrained eye. If someone can tell me what paint is likely to be involved in a code like this I would like to know: 54 FLE 81789 Gold On 4/8/2007 at 9:37 AM M Thomas Eastham wrote: >Great discussion! The paint on my coach is BASF. The colors are all five digit numbers. When I
get home today I will look closer at it. There is one supplier in my area. I'll look at the can for more info. It is likely that yours is the same mfg. Painting where clearcoat has peeled
Thomas,
I called Blue Bird and gave them my body number and they gave me my paint codes (Dupont). Have not tried to get the paint so I don't know how good the codes are. They have records on all the birds they built. Might be worth a call. Looking forward to meeting you at Lone Star Bird rally in San Antonio. I sure does not hurt to call. They were not able to provide that info to me.
Someone who had been there forever finally came up with the name BASF for me and that got me going. It took me awhile to figure it out. Once a supplier is found, it is no problem. I had never heard of BASF. There is a member on this forum who has all the BASF paint codes but I have lost his name. Don: I looked in the files section member to member to see if I could tweak my
memory and found who I believe decoded my paint codes for BASF. Look up Lee Condosta in member to member. I'm positive he is the person. Painting where clearcoat has peeled
Leroy/Thomas
BASF/RM numbers are referenced in the Bus Spec Catalog I have and are cross referenced to Dupont numbers. Only problem is they are for school bus colors and interior colors. No reference to Wanderlodges. I also have a Wamderlodge Quick Reference Parts Catalog with all Dupont air dry numbers for Wanderlodges 1963 - 1985. Thomas I will have it with me at the Lone Star Bird rally. I think someone in the L.S. B. got these for us, might have been Ralph. Painting where clearcoat has peeled
I understand the problem. I went through that drill for a month when trying to
figure out my paint. No paint store could figure out the numbers on the tag. Once I concluded BASF it was easy, once I found a supplier, and that is another story. I have a can of base coat in front of me, over 2/3sd of the label in a foreign language as follows: R-M Diamont Polyester Basecoat, Exportador, BASF Corp, Southfield, MI, 48034, Eatados Unidos. Made in the USA/Distributed by BASF, Southfield, MI 48034. This particular color is Turquoise, or there abouts, named Medium Lagoon Metallic, code #81573. My supplier is a very small store locally. Makes one wonder how the largest chemical company in the world, based in Germany, would not have easy to fine suppliers. My underestanding is that Ford and Mercedes Benz use this paint. I also heard from BB that it was used in 1990 and possibly in 1991. To make matters worse, I have a Royale conversion and who knows what they did. Records are sketchy at best. I have found that my paint, 17 years old is of top quality. That is all I can do to help. I have all four colors for my coach.
