How to remove upper dash?
Hi folks,
How do I remove my upper dash panel (the one with the speedometer in it)? I got the lower one out easily. On the upper, I found a screw going through from the right side and another holding the panel to a bracket in the center. The right side & center area is free but the left won't budge. I'm sure there is a screw there somewhere near the speedometer but I can't find it. I don't want to force anything and break it. Any advice? -Ryan '86 PT-40 8V92 Tri-Cities, WA |

How to remove upper dash?
Ryan
I did mine a couple of weeks ago. There is a screw on the left side. It's about the same position as the one on the right side. But it comes out from the inside. I needed a very long phillips screwdriver and a flashlightto get it out.I acually used a 15" 1/4 drive extention with a phillips bit on one end and a handle on the other. It took several times to "spear" the center of the screw but it worked. I got the direction from Ralph Fullenwider. Art Weatherly Riveride Ca. Thank you for the responses! Should be easy to finish getting out now
that I know where the screw is hiding. -Ryan '86 PT-40 8V92 Tri-Cities, WA |

There is a phillips head screw just above and to the left of the
speedo. Some people have posted that they got it out with a long phillips screw driver. You will have to do it without being able to see the screw head. On mine I removed the two nuts from the speedo mount pulled the speedo out and then could use a 1/4" rachet with a phillips bit. After I got it out I took my Dremmel Tool and used the flexable drive to drill the screw hole all the way thru the upper surround. I then put a slide on type speed clip for a sheet metal screw on the dash mount ear that has the screw hole in it. when I put the dash back in I put a longer screw in from the outside and screwed it into the speed clip. I used a Bluebird screw head cover like the ones used all around that area. It looks factory and I can pull the upper dash in a couple of minutes.
