Things that go bump in the night...

Several nights now, I have heard a loud thump in my coach in the
middle of the night. The first couple of nights it was loud enough and
startled me out of my sleep such that I flipped the security lights on
and went out hunting bad guys with a tactical light and a 9mm (bus is
parked on my private property behind a fence with a locked gate, so
anyone lurking in the shadows by my coach is fair game). Fortunately I
haven't found anyone and the noise happened again last night, so I'm
fairly sure at this point it's something on the bus itself.

Basically, it's a "boom" type of echoing noise. It's loud, at least
when you're sleeping in the back. Sounds like someone smacking a big,
empty aluminum tank with a baseball bat. I can't help but wonder if
it's coming from the plumbing system? Maybe a loud burp of a tank of
some sort? Perhaps a side wall on the hot water heater flexing? I
don't know, I'm just guessing here.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not running A/C or heaters, so
probably not related to those. No engine or generator running, either.
Plugged into 50 amp shore power, running fridge, water pump, hot water
heater, battery chargers and lights. That's about it. No incoming
water connection (I prefer to use the on-board water and just fill it
up every few weeks to minimize the damage in the event of a leak).

Nope. Bears don't live in the desert and I'm right smack in the middle
of one. For that matter, no big game anywhere really to speak of.
There are some elk outside the city and the occasional wild horses,
but I've never seen 'em in the city or anywhere near my neighborhood.

I am not sure if it is correct or not but I had a similar sound on my
1984 - I concluded it was the parking brake releasing a bit and
grabbing. Are you on any kind of front to back slope?

No front to back slope that I can tell - also, I'm up on leveling jacks.

Curt Sprenger on the "wanderlodge" group mentioned a similar noise
with his leveling jacks, so I'm going to try topping off the fluid &
cycling them as he did. Might just solve it.
