Michelin Tires not available

We ordered 8 new 12R22.5 BF Goodrich tires with late 2007 DOT dates and are
still waiting, perhaps the same situation. They are $459 per tire mounted with
spin balance and tire disposal.

You guys have me really confused about these Michelin tires. Which I
might add is not all that hard to do. What do the numbers 12R and
11R mean. I am right now in the process of getting Michelin tires
for my FC. They are back ordered with an expected delivery in a week
or two(?). But we all know what that means. Now my problem is I have
left the details up to the dealer as per which tire to use. I
believe they are XZE tires but not certain. What do I need for this
FC? Give me some details and more information so I can make certain
I end up with what I need. If I see a problem with Mich. then I am
going to go with the Bridgestone tires which can be had. Please
expand on this so I know at least what questions I need to ask of the
dealer. My coach is a 1973 FC converted to diesel. John Heckman

Tires are Tires and good for 8 years give or take a year and a
blowout. there is no problem going with 11r's if the weights on all
the axles does not exceed the limits on the tire stamp. most tractor
trailers use 11r's. 12r are mostly used on transit buses. they are
taller and wider then the 11r's. an 18 wheeler with 80,000 lbs and
simple math leaves each tire responsible for 4,400. a bus with 6
wheels and 35,000 lbs leaves each tire responsible for 5,800 lbs.
12r's are more than a size they are a class designed for the
transport of people. (best math devides heavyest axle by number of
tires per that axle to find need)

Retreads are perfected now adays and I would not hesitate to use
them. Transit busses use them but they run the tread off the tires
in a year and the casings are good for another tread life. the
casing used to make the retread needs to be new and if you do not
have one to give the retreader, you need to add core to the cost of
purchase. then you have an old tire casing with a new tread, thus a
limited to 8 year of casing age to use the new tread.

One way to do it is to GO for the 12r's, put 2 new 12's out front
and 4 retreads in the rear (if the savings warrents use) and rotate
new steers into the mix every two and 1/2 years. that way you are
always steering new rubber.

11 R is an 11 inch wide tire and 12 R is a 12 inch wide tire. The "R"
means it's a radial design (bias ply tires aren't made anymore so far
as I know). The 12 inch tire has higher weight capacity and is used
on an 8" or wider wheel. The 11 inch tire is used on wheels less than
8" wide.

You need to check your wheels to see what width they are. The older
birds tend to use the 11R tires while the newer ones use 12R. I think
the earlier birds have 7 or 7-1/2 inch wide wheels, so the 11R is the
tire to use on your 73 bird.

Tires are one of those things that generate much emotion -- I'm
running on Toyo tires and they seem quite satisfactory.

Ok that is helpful. I am changing wheels at this time too. The new
ones will be 8.25 inches wide so as long as the tires match and
things fit up under the coach I should be good to go????

If you are doing breakfast/lunch/dinner at a restaurant, I highly
recommend the Tamarisk (Best Western River Terrace) on the east side of
the river south side of highway - directly across from the John Wesley
Powell River Museum. Great food and great service. We use this
restaurant on the Elderhostel tours of the National Parks in Utah. Are
you heading for Canyonlands and Arches?
