Hugh- do you have any issues with your generator when it runs out of fuel? Do you have to prime it, again?

At what level is the gen pickup?

My PO told me that when the gauge reads E it still has at least
50/60 gallons left. I have never got a low fuel light. I base mine
fuel time off the generator since it has a shorter pickup. When the
generator shuts off and will not start back it time to get fuel.
When I was in the Air Force working on airplanes ,we had to
physically dip the tanks to check the quantity.

Our FC gauge only reads between full and 3/4 when the fuel is running
out on my shoes, I guess it gives us a buffer when it gets low.

The generator did it once as I was bring it home. Once it hic uped I
shut it down to avoid the prime issue, but after I filled up it
started up with no problem. I have several pieces of pvc/cpc pipe
around here, I think I am going to make some type of dip stick to
verify the quantity. Just got to find the 1k to fill it up.

The gage was reading empty and the fuel bill was close $ 700.00 that was last June or July when I brought it home. I was told that when reading zero I still had 50 gallons left and the gauge was off by 50 gallons. Since is appears to be a problem with all birds of our vintage, I still thinking of some type of dip stick to verify the quantity. I will post pictures here and on the new owners site.

Gus, you must have been living right to have a fuel starvation and not having to go thru the ordeal of priming.

Why is my gas gauge pessimistic?

When I was bringing my 89PT40 home, my
generator actually shut off while stopping for a burger.  The fuel gauge was just
below ¼.  I added 100 gls and the generator started right up without priming.
