How does one re-secure the lower, rear, mount... i.e. the one the
dogleg bar attaches to.... when the anchors/sleeves for the 3 screws
are stripped out???

Anyone done this? Thanks.

2000 LXI

P.S. caused by a narrow bridge, a parked DOT truck and an err in
judgement.

You could probably secure some epoxy putty. Fill the holes and when
set, re-drill and put your screws back in.

I've found JB weld does an excellent job of just what Ron is talking about. As
with any bonding agent, prep(cleaning the surface) is 75% of the battle.

If they're screwed into the metal "riv-nut", then the old riv-nut can
be drilled out and a new one installed. You can also try a Helicoil
insert, large hardware stores carry them and most mechanics will know
what you are talking about.

I have a lot of aluminum stock which I always find uses for when repairing
my 1982. I restored a 1976 GMC motorhome and had the same problem you are
experiencing,m pulled the bottom bracket off the body. I cut a piece of
1/4" aluminum(I polished it to a high luster) about 3" square and pop
riveted it to the body with an additional piece on the other side of the
body. Then I attached the awning bracket to that and its stronger then ever.
