Bluebird Trailer plug Wiring
Ok guys I can't remember all this stuff anymore. Can anyone tell me
what all the colors on the trailer plug indicate. Blue is the right
turn, red is the left turn and green is the running lights. That
leaves yellow and white. I would assume that white is a ground but who
knows. Thanks, Mike McMahan 96 42' Wanderlodge

Neither can anyone else, so that's why it is in the Files in the RV
Trailer Plug Wiring Diagrams file folder.... ;^)

go to the Bargman site. My bird was wired wrong.
There is a standard for all plug configurations, creative wiring is not a good idea.

Yeah, every one I have ever looked at was wired wrong! I think Jeff
Miller said one time that they were ALL wrong. I guess the wiring guy
at the factory never checked that wiring standard. That's the first
thing I had to change on both Birds, in order to hook up the toad,
which I wired to the standard.

Pretty colors are nice for Easter Eggs, but I have found the best way
to determine which wire is which, is to have my Wife operate the
various switches, while I check the wires with my VoltMeter...
Then, since my JEEP has space in the tail light housing, I put in a
extra socket with a 1157 Turn/Stop/Tail light bulb, and now the toad
light setup is totally seperate from the original wireing..

"Your Right or my right?" I got stopped on the fourth by a
YorbaLinda Commercial Cop enroute to BlackhillsCC. He did a blinker
test standing behind my excavator trailer. Nervous that he was
going to hit me up with $1,500. for using Wiercanyon and not
Imperial (WierCanyon is a famous bypass the DOT scales route)I
blinked left for his right command. His next request was "OK now
try my right"

The jumpsuit wearing officer chocked my tires and dropped his skate
board creeper. I said "go easy, today is my birthday." Checking my
DriverLicense clipped to his ticket board he said "OH yea,
happybirthday!, Are you in town tomorrow". "Yes" I said. He then
reachd down to pull the chocks and tipped the creeper up to his grip
with his foot , handed me my license back and said "See you
tomorrow"

Mike, some of the Volvo tail light setups (91-97 ptBB) have diodes
inline to the trailer wire harness. The amber blinkers on the BB
Volvo taillights are independent of the stop wire. The federal setup
on many trailers and toads require a diode conversion. If you are at
the plug for a issue with the output, check on the diodes. I think it
is refered to as "4 to 3 wire converter"

I notice this is a different kind of plug than the one on my coach. (My coach has round pin connectors. They have proved to be a little unreliable in maintaining a clean connection.) Is the "Pollak" plug more reliable in giving a good electrical connection?

Gregory,
If you are not in violation of the law then you don't have anything to worry about. Sounds like you weren't too sure. Maybe the DOT man isn't the "Prick" in this scenario.

Randy, your right the DOT isnt the only one,

As a class A commercial driver in California I can not operate a
two stroke (not smoggable in ca), driving a nonsmogged diesel for me
is eventually a felony violation. I'm in violation even when I
gather $1,000.00 cash from my efforts digging holes and put in in
the tank of my bus then hit the road to spend the other $1,000.00 in
the vacation economy. With all the medical health requirements ,
specialized drivers training, concurent drug/alchahol testing &
classes, 2 million dollars liability, bonds, CHP onsite inspections
and record audits. I am in violation of the law because the higher
standard require me to answer to a different set of rules then most
drivers. even when I drive my 97 dodge diesel pickup I am in
violation because it is not smogged. The pick up is smoggable but
if I have it tested and it does not pass twice it is no longer
sellable in CA and title will be more or less listed as salvage, my
bus too.

I recently got a misdomenor violation and $1,500.00 fine(reduced in
court) for being in violation because I prepaid for a Biannual
CHPinspection $510. and that act excellerated the necessary
inspection period to 7 months from the 26 months that failure to pay
would have allowed.

I sat road side for 2 hours at an inspection while I was paying
$110.00 per the hour for labor/rentals to wait my return. never
mind the fact that I presented the Commercial cop paperwork that
backed up the window sticker that I just passed my 3 month dot.

Like permits, fees, insurance, fuel, kickback/commissions, and the
financing of the costs I just pass the expense on to the buyer. I
wonder if consuming non productive expence could hurt the
economy? . Charging $2,000 for a $500.00 effort does make me the
same as I describe the C.Cop and part of the economic problem.
Thanks for pointing it out.
