3208 tac send

[Ralph L. Fullenwider]

Well it is late Jan so most things done to the Coach are on the inside. FC
owners, where are the tac send units located? Mine is not on the front of
the fuel injector pump out put shaft and the tac in my Coach is electronic.

The tac reports correctly until it warms the becomes erratic then none at
all. Have a feeling there is a bad connection in the sense wiring. Ideas?

Thanks Chuck, will check that area closer when I open up the front again. I
had just never notice it back there I guess. I know it is not on the fuel
injection pump timing drive like the book says it is.

Mine looks like it is driving off the end
of the camshaft. I had a wiring problem in that area when the insulation
deteriorated.

That's where mine is, front of the engine. It's driven off the injector pump
shaft via the transfer gear bolt. Transfer gear for lack of a better term
indexes into the cam gear and turns the pump. The bolt secures the pump gear to
the tapered shaft of the pump. Engine timing adjustment is accomplished by
moving the gear on the taper. Bolt is torqued to 110 ft. #s. 'When' my tach
drive fails I'm going to investigate taking the signal off the fly wheel ring
gear. There's a threaded bore in the bell housing for that use. The sensor is
from a Ford medium duty.

Thank you Mike: I know it is supposed to be driven by the injector pump but
I don't remember seeing it there. But then they say memory is the first
thing to go.
