Rear Window on 1984 PT40WL

Does anybody have any reason for the rear window and metal cover on
the rear of the '84 PT40WL???

I am doing a complete rejuvination on my bird and am considering
replacing the rear window and cover with some new 16 gauge smooth
galvanived steel. This would save some weight as well as provide
better insulation on the rear. My bus is the rear bedroom model and
the rear window is not usable from the inside due to closet space and
air conditioning equipment in the rear of the bus.

I think it is a hold-over from the commercial bus design and serves no
useful purpose on this model. What do you folks think???

Roger: Wanderlodge used the rear cap from the forward control coach
on
the rear of the PT40 in order to save money. In 1985 and 1986 the
factory had lots of complaints about the poor appearance of the
window
in the rear. They came out with a metal panel to cover the window.
I'm not sure if the panel was their idea or a Wanderlodge owner's
idea. In any case what you have in mind should not cause a problem.

Thanks bbwlwb88, I believe I will remove the window and cover and
replace with a smooth metal panel to clean up the rear end a
little. This group is amazing with the vast amount of experience
with these great motorhomes. Thanks again!!!
