20" HDTV LCD

I just bought this TV at Sears. I was looking at the new 19" Sony on
sale for $799 (reg $999) and noticed this. It was marked $479 (reg
$799) but when the salesman checked the computer it came up as $399.

Anyone thinking of putting in a HDTV should check this out while
supplies last!! It is the 4:3 aspect ratio, not the 16:9, that the
salesman told me, but for the price I think it's pretty good.

Trying to Figure Out how To Install It

I'm not familiar with the '86 but will assume the new TV is replacing
the old one that is mounted center in the overhead. I used the original
mounting to install our 15" LCD TV with bottom speaker. You will be able
to determine if the original mounting can be used or modified to work.
I'll send a couple pictures too.

Remove the dash panels on either side and remove the TV. Our old TV was
held in place at the upper corners of the mounting brackets that are
exposed with the panels removed, one screw at each corner. It rested in
a ledge at the bottom. Have someone hold the TV in place when removing
the screws, or be sure to have a hand on it so it wont fall.

On a table remove the TV from the mounting brackets. Lay the mounting
face down on the table (on a packing blanket or similar). Place the new
TV on top face down, marked the TV outline, and cut those steel side
plates. Put this back on the table. The new TV should drop through to
the blanket. Prop up the brackets/TV so the TV sticks through the
mounting frame to be flush with the dash partitions. Weight down the
assemble to keep it in place. Then use silicone around the TV/frame
work, let it set up for a day, and mount the TV in the coach.

I used some of the original vinyl that was part of the old TV unit,
wrapped foam and the vinyl around cut to length/width wood sticks, to
make up the dash filler around the new TV. Use Velcro to hold the pieces
in place. I did this because the controls on the TV itself are located
in the TV side and thought that some day I my need to get at them.

Thanks for the details and pictures Curt. Your setup looks good! Our
interiors look pretty much the same, except I have a VCR stuck in the
panel over the driver's head.

The TV picture looked good during the day, but tonight I noticed it
had brighter edges causing an hourglass discoloration. I'm going to
bring it back to Sears tomorrow. The discoloration wasn't apparant
during the brighter daylight hours. It is unacceptable since we
normally watch TV at night.
