Got the steps working on the Rebel Bird

Got the steps working on the Rebel Bird
After checking everything under the sun on the operations of my
Wanderlodge steps I noticed that there was power to both sides of the
door switch (Button type). I checked a little closer and low and
behold someone either from the factory or in the past put in a 12
volt heater strip right under the steps. I wouldn't have notice this
but while checking under the coach I notice this item just sitting in
a void area under the steps. It was wired up to the toggle switch and
then to complete the circuit someone ran the negative part to the
push button electric switch on the negative side. So what happen
over time the heater strip probably due to age shorter out inside.
So instead of a heating strip it was just routing the power from the
toggle switch to the door switch (Negative side) I guess if I would
have know anything about this wiring system I would have caught it
but I just thought it was strange to have power on both sides of that
switch but that maybe this was designed for a purpose. So now the
steps go out and in with no problem and thanks for all the help I got
here. PS I'm going to post a picture of my headache on Bruces site
if anyone might be interest in seeing the "Heater Strip from Hell!"

Jon once again....I believe what you think is a heater strip is the
safety device mounted under the sill of the door to protect your feet
if the steps should inadvertently trigger and close, when the strip
feels your feet pushing against it, it cuts power off to the steps.

I believe that the "heater strip" that you're referring to is the
pressure-sensitive switch that Tom Warner referred to in an earlier
reply to your problem. It was designed (as he had mentioned) to
prevent toe-pinch by stopping the step from pulling in if a foot
touched the pressure switch. Is this stuck to the underside of the
steel just above the step? Simply disconnecting it will allow the
step to pull in, often by now they no longer work correctly.
