Hi John,
Had the same problem last year- turned out to be the soleniod that is mounted to the front of the passenger side wheel well near the step. Try getting a 100 AMP continuous duty wet environment solenoid from West Marine. They are plastic coated and will resist the road spray and moisture. Only run around $45. After replacing my solenoid, the genset battery charges just fine.
