I think you've been chasing the gremlin. Turn on your emergency flashers,
and see if those side lights light up. Typically those are turn indicator lights, not clearance lights. Good luck....hope you didn't spend too much time and effort trying to get those things to light up as clearance lights! Been there...done that!
